The PS Portal device is exclusively designed for the Remote Play feature, so it’s not surprising that it has become the most popular platform for this feature. This indicates the overall success of the device, which is currently owned by about 5% of all PlayStation 5 owners in the United States.
Sony has recently upgraded the capabilities of this popular handheld console, and now PS Plus Premium members can stream games directly from the cloud to it.
This feature no longer requires owning a PlayStation 5, meaning you can play over 2800 games on this device.
Takuro Fushimi, Sony’s Senior Product Development Manager, shared interesting insights about the device in an interview with Tech Radar:
Our data shows that PS Portal users have higher engagement compared to non-users. The PS Portal has now become the most used device for PlayStation 5 Remote Play, surpassing PCs, mobile phones, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
This is not entirely unexpected, as the dedicated nature of the PS Portal means that its buyers primarily purchased it with the intention of using the Remote Play feature. However, as mentioned earlier, these statistics show how much this device has penetrated among users.
What’s truly interesting is the change in survey results. In 2023, about 60% of nearly 6000 participants in a survey stated they had no plans to buy the device, and among them, 33% said they had “no interest” in it.
But last week, in a new survey, the results were completely reversed: about 51% of our users reported that they now own this handheld console, and 32% of them said they use it at least once a week.
