First images of canceled God of War multiplayer game revealed
New images have been released from the canceled multiplayer game set in the God of War universe, which was being developed by Bluepoint Games. This game, one of several live-service projects canceled by PlayStation, was intended to be set in a Greek environment.
According to reports and images published by the MP1st website, the game was supposed to return players to the world of Greek mythology. In the images, Greek temples, pottery, and caves can be seen. However, it appears that this game also drew inspiration from the Norse God of War series; for example, a statue resembling Einherjar warriors and weapons with green coloring, reminiscent of enemies from God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, are visible in the images.
Additionally, there is evidence of Hades, the god of the underworld, being present in the game, indicated by his associated armory and sulfur pools. This is significant in terms of the story’s timeline. Since Hades is killed in God of War III, his presence in this multiplayer game could mean that its events took place before God of War III, unless the game was set in a separate timeline.
In two images, we also see the environment changing due to a red curse, which was likely related to one of the game’s mechanics.
The reason for the project’s cancellation was PlayStation’s uncertainty about its long-term success, especially given the poor reception of other live-service games.
Given Bluepoint Games’ experience in remaking games and their familiarity with the Greek setting through this canceled project, many fans hope that the studio’s next project will be a remake of the original God of War.
